Injuries, leglocks, ..

This week was not a nice week for the body. On Monday I did not smoke for several hours before training and really felt the difference.. Hopefully that gives me some wake up call to quit. During training I got a big bruise on my left hip (yesterday). Today, it seemed way better. I did not imagine yesterday I would train today. However, since it felt better after some good sleep and food, I trained Tuesday, No-Gi.

Monday Nevertheless, started off with leglocks and going further on last week's topic where we did several sweeps. Pushing the foot in the opponents hip, where the other leg/feet is behind the upper cross leg are important parts. Your hip should be from the ground creating pressure, so that a sweep is easy made. This time, we did a variation where the sweep was made without grabbing the cross leg/foot - by making room for the opposite hand to grab the ankle and pull it while simultaneously trying to sweep with the controlled leg.

Next up fundamentals (beginners) regarding mount control - eventually to s-mount for the arm bar. Lots of steps to get it right, maintaining control while switching positions to end up in a good arm bar.

Tuesday We normally receive training from A, but this time another well known - long time - killer - provided the lesson. We did not continue the shoulder crunch, the lesson was in respect to the front head lock from turtle control, passing either to the side/back or to a submission (d' arce, anaconda or guillotuine). We did not go into the details of the submission, rather into controlling the opponent while passing to the side. Cup the head, grab the tricep, move the body to a side and move back keeping the opponent instable, so he has no strong base in turtle - and preventing him from grabbing the leg while passing. We did a variation including a submission where we don't pass the arms by controlling the arm with the hands but with the far leg/knee, going to a look-a-like arm-triangle submission. Escaping can be prevented to get guard, or to take the back in case the opponent turns.

Thursday Advanced Techniques & Competition Sparring. In the advanced lesson we spend a bit of time in stand up - neck defense to armdrag, to backtake (body lock) to takedown where from there on the submission setup was discussed. Hereafter followed 1 hour of sparring with some killers. I managed to escape in some positions but found it very hard to maintain back control on black belts. I think that was it for the week, my body is tired and broken a bit. Injuries of Monday seem passed, but in general my body is tired. Let's give it some days rest, back on Monday :)
