Leglocks & Fundamentals (half guard without frames)

To start off with, today was not spectacular, but educational and interesting! Since today our club started to have a leg lock focused training. It was without sparring, but interesting for sure! Never thought to apply the same principle of the inside position for leg positioning, but I must admin my knowledge of leglocks is very small. I know the heel hook, and some variations of the knee bar (which I cannot use in tournaments).

Leglocks

We started off to drill getting the inside position (no resistance). Later, taking the leg in control was added, meaning be close to the opponent, where both the feet, as the knee of the other leg are used to lock the hip - and knee. At this point it is pretty hard to defend by pushing the feet down, as the foot is pushed inside ones own hip. Hereafter we move away from the body using the legs to eventually end up in a proper heel hook position. Also here (I guess) the principle : position (control) before submission applies. A proper heel hook seems to be very close to the toes, where the hand that holds the ankle should be pulled upwards for pressure. It is finished by laying on the side and leaning and looking backwards, which seems not really needed to get a tap when properly positioned.

Fundamentals

After this class, the fundamental course was followed - subject was: half guard (without frame). The other party passed by controlling one leg and one hip, moving the head towards the hip to avoid the leg to be pulled away. If the bottom guy hooks the leg before passing, the other pushes the knee down and makes sure his knees are on the ground - whereas the bottom guy's knees are behind, so the knees are passed. An underhook is taken, and with the other arm an underhook or arm around the head to avoid movement when properly applied pressure with the shoulder. With a spider walk, one arm is walked upwards - than the other one. America can be used to make sure the bottom guy has to defend with his other arm. We didn't go further than this. There were opportunities for the head-arm triangle choke, classic color choke. and probably way more :D
